Riding PD waves on the WESTERN TIDE

This is my other activity when I am not building rods... apart from my day job.
It's my 1st time jigging in the coastal area of Port Dickson although I have seen a lot of photos of big catches in Port Dickson.

I do saltwater fishing sometimes but I am not an avid jigger. Hated those unpredictable weather, especially when I am out in the sea.

Strong wind and rain will spoil the whole day of fishing, then again it is still better than a good day at work... if you get what I meant.

It was a great Saturday.. the weather was good when we reached Marina Bay Club where the boat was docked.

The day started of real slow.. with a lot of small nibbles on the jigs with a lot of snags. We still have time for selfie, see how slow it was..

The action only kicked in about 11am when the biggies are biting and then everybody was busy jigging..

One by one the fish are hauled up..and below are the photos of the catches not in chronology sequence.

Then it slow down around 1pm.. But everybody was still very hardworking jigging. Most of the area are very snaggy and we are like donation our jigs like nobody's business.

Our friend here is very good in tying FG knots after being forced to tie the leader 6 times during this trip..

Tying knots..

tying knots and tying knots..

We headed back to the dock around 6 plus.

Overall I would say this trip was good. Below are the fish we landed.
There are a lot of small fish where we CnR.

I guessed we just got lucky and not every trip is as fruitful as ours...

ROMPIN fishing

Whenever people mentioned about Rompin, the 1st thing that comes to their minds is this....

No, not Marlin.. but SAILFISH, the smaller cousin of Marlin.

Royal Billfish are held in Rompin annually. Fishermen from most part of the world will drop by to have their share of fun fishing sail fish in Rompin.

I had my share too..

But little does anyone know, there is another part of fishing where lesser people will pay attention to....  Freshwater fishing.

There is a dam nearby and a very very long Rompin river to explore.

Rompin river was known to have abundance of big prawns.. the blue pincher but due to over fishing for the past few years, their quantity reduces tremendously.

According to the locals, the good season for the 'udang galah' or the blue pincher is after monsoon season.

This is the river side chalets that me and my friends always stay whenever we are fishing at Rompin river.

Morning view at the river side..

At night, this will be a fishing spot for prawns..

Shrimp...!!!  Some finger size prawns caught by the river side chalet. Good fun on UL rods.

Bigger one are caught up the river.

If you are lucky enough, you would land a river Barra doing bottom fishing at night. 2.5 pounds fighter...

Apart from river fishing, we went to Sepayang Dam which is located around 30 minutes from Kuala Rompin town. We stayed a night on the orang asli or local aborigine's hut in the dam.

Over 70% of this place are covered with either lily pads or weeds. A good place for the fish to hide from their predators.

This place is known for its ferocious snakeheads. Surprisingly, the snakeheads here spawn all year long. You can spot many groups of baby snakeheads around the dam.

Caught one of the 'mother' snakehead.

Other then snakeheads, there are Jungle perch. You can find them in the rivers in the dam.

You can do bottom fishing here as well. I can't believe we caught a few baung (Hemibagrus) at night.

One day catch of 3 species of fish and we bought those sizable fish home for consumption. Good clean protein here..

It has been a good trip despite of the rain during the 'prawning' session...
I would say Kuala Rompin is nice cosy town where you can enjoy both saltwater and freshwater fishing...
