BNO Megalops

Made another trip to BNO with Teng Wei, FCK and Kevin. We left town for BNO at 4.30 in the morning hoping for a satisfying early start early finish..

The weather was cloudy and it started to drizzle when we reached BNO...
The fish was kinda active but don't really take the bait..

I started off with my figerglass UL spinning setup. Caught a few..

We moved on to another spot after they did not land anything eventhough there were a few strikes.

I changed my UL spinning setup to fly at the new spot. We can see groups of tarpons on feeding frenzy at this new spot and a few cast, we begin to land the tarpons.

Another friend, Aji joined us at the new spot. He was casting his 7wt fly rod and landed a few on gurgler.

First timers to BNO, Teng Wei was having fun...

Another hook up...

FCK with his catch..

Soft plastic..

Kevin caught one but unfortunately no photo.

I was using damsel on fly and the hit rate was high. Never misses when I casted into the frenzy bunch..

It got really windy by noon and the sky turned gloomy.  We decided to called a day and left for lunch before it rained.

It was another fun thrilling fishing trip on UL spinning and light wt fly rod setups...

The Malayan Trout

Its' scientific name is Raiamas guttatus. Some of us called it the Malayan Trout ,but it is commonly known as sikang, is one of the specimen that most of the  fisherman here would like to catch.

My first encounter with this species was during my early days when I started fly fishing in 2002.

Recently I asked my friend or should I say literally forced him to bring me to his favourite sikang spot which is about 2 hours drive from town. A river hidden somewhere in some plantation land. The water was cooling and clean. You can actually see the fish swimming pass your legs.

I only used Dave's natural hopper and Elk hair caddis for this "fly" trip. The sikang here will also take micro spoons and mini lures.

Ultra light setup is recommended for this trip and I guess an fly rod weight 3 and below is best used here.

Below are some of the photos taken during the trip..

BNO Tarpon Trip

It has been being quite awhile since I last fish for tarpon , let alone fly fishing.

Thanks to my buddy, Kanicen who is willing to plan this trip.

He planned for tarpon fishing at his "2nd home" and his favourite play ground...  BNO and it is 2 1/2 hours drive from town.

Our journey started 5 in the morning and reached our destination by 7.
Alot of raises but they were shy and spooky. I missed a few hook ups and landed a few on gurgler.

After awhile, they don't take top water and I have to change to damsel to lure them.

They slowed down by noon and we had a break for lunch.

Fun the continued in the afternoon..

My Orvis 2wt fly set.

We had a full day of fun fishing...

and till another trip from my buddy, my fly set will to tucked in the corner again..

Jigging trip @ somewhere near Pulau Jarak

After 24 hours of the completion of my jigging rod, it was time to give it a try.

A day trip to some jigging spot nearby Pulau Jarak.

Breakfast before we leave for the yatch club.

That was our 'ride'... the DARKwater.

We loaded the boat around 8am and off we go..

Selfie before starting the HARD work..

We travelled about 60 minutes from the shore before we dropped our first metal jigs into the water. The under current was very forgiving but the wind was kinda strong. The boat drifted fast.

We started use 120g metal jig and ended up with 200g...

With my beginner's luck. I landed a decent table size grouper on 120g IMA jig.

The catch rate for that day was not really good, it could have been better if the wind isn't that strong.

Well, I hope my next trip would be a better one...

PK Custom handpour soft plastic lures

After a month in the waiting list plus another 10 days of shipping period,  finally it reached to the final destination...

Below is my favourite soft plastic lures.  A 3" paddle tail minnow which is great for drop shot fishing.

Peacock bass can't resist it...

I will be trying out some other swimbait soft plastics as well...

On top is the 4" kicktail chartreuse shad soft plastic and bottom is the 3.5" striker swimbait.

I got some bigger ones. These 4.5" striker swimbait imitating colors of Peacock Bass and cat fish will be ideal for giant snakeheads.
