The Malayan Trout

Its' scientific name is Raiamas guttatus. Some of us called it the Malayan Trout ,but it is commonly known as sikang, is one of the specimen that most of the  fisherman here would like to catch.

My first encounter with this species was during my early days when I started fly fishing in 2002. 

Recently I asked my friend or should I say literally forced him to bring me to his favourite sikang spot which is about 2 hours drive from town. A river hidden somewhere in some plantation land. The water was cooling and clean. You can actually see the fish swimming pass your legs.



I only used Dave's natural hopper and Elk hair caddis for this "fly" trip. The sikang here will also take micro spoons and mini lures.

Ultra light setup is recommended for this trip and I guess an fly rod weight 3 and below is best used here.
