BNO Tarpon Trip

It has been being quite awhile since I last fish for tarpon , let alone fly fishing.

Thanks to my buddy, Kanicen who is willing to plan this trip.

He planned for tarpon fishing at his "2nd home" and his favourite play ground...  BNO and it is 2 1/2 hours drive from town.



Our journey started 5 in the morning and reached our destination by 7.

Alot of raises but they were shy and spooky. I missed a few hook ups and landed a few on gurgler.

After awhile, they don't take top water and I have to change to damsel to lure them.

They slowed down by noon and we had a break for lunch.

Fun the continued in the afternoon..

and till another trip from my buddy, my fly set will to tucked in the corner again..



Jigging trip @ somewhere near Pulau Jarak

After 24 hours of the completion of my jigging rod, it was time to give it a try.

A day trip to some jigging spot nearby Pulau Jarak.

Breakfast before we leave for the yatch club.

That was our 'ride'... the DARKwater.

We loaded the boat around 8am and off we go..

We travelled about 60 minutes from the shore before we dropped our first metal jigs into the water. The under current was very forgiving but the wind was kinda strong. The boat drifted fast.

We started use 120g metal jig and ended up with 200g...


With my beginner's luck. I landed a decent table size grouper on 120g IMA jig.

The catch rate for that day was not really good, it could have been better if the wind isn't that strong.

Well, I hope my next trip would be a better one...

PK Custom handpour soft plastic lures

After a month in the waiting list plus another 10 days of shipping period,  finally it reached to the final destination...



Below is my favourite soft plastic lures.  A 3" paddle tail minnow which is great for drop shot fishing.

Peacock bass can't resist it...



I will be trying out some other swimbait soft plastics as well...


On top is the 4" kicktail chartreuse shad soft plastic and bottom is the 3.5" striker swimbait.

I got some bigger ones. These 4.5" striker swimbait imitating colors of Peacock Bass and cat fish will be ideal for giant snakeheads.

DIY - BUZZBAIT

Making your own buzzbait is rather easy, just merely assembling the components.

The components can be purchase from shop. What you need to do is only painting the lead head.

All you need is :

The pre-moulded buzzbait blank.

Some spray paints.

Aluminum buzz blade, clacker blade, beads and rivet collars.

Sticker eyes.

Silicon skirts.

Epoxy for finishing coat to protect the paint from peeling.

After painting  the lead head of the buzz bait, it will be coated with epoxy.

The epoxy coated lead head is left to dry for a day before assembling all the components.

The completed buzzbait ready for use.

Tasik Prima or Tasik Puchong Prima... what ever you want to call it..

That was how it looked like 12 years ago, an abandoned mining lake in the sub-urban of Puchong area where abundance of snakehead or tomans to fish.

Due to over fishing, the numbers of snakeheads decreases drastically and most of the time, I see fisherman does not land anything. The popularity of tasik prima slowly dying ..... until the appearance of Peacock bass in late 2007. According to a source, the peacock bass in Tasik Prima originated from Subang Lake.

We had great fun even before the news of the availability of Peacock bass spread out.

Development around the lake started in 2010 and so does the reclamation. At least 10% of the total area of the lake was filled for lake side housing development and land based fishing was reduced as banks are fenced up due to development.

There was a period of time, the Peacock bass went missing. You really don't see them anywhere and you don't see people fishing them up. There was some netting activities in that lake and I thought the Peacock bass was all netted up.

After awhile , they are back bigger and stronger....

It was great fun  ....... for now. Not sure when it will last.
